Every Word – She Quit Too Soon

You actually can.

“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 3:13-14 NASB1995

It was an ambitious idea but she was determined
it was 1952 and Florence Chadwick at the time in

her early 30s was attempting to swim from
the California coast to Catalina Island

26 miles as far as a marathon a flotilla of
support craft went with her people who were

watching for sharks others who would
help her if she got injured or tired

as Florence swam thick fog rolled in and unable
to see the coastline she became discouraged

she got out of the water and gave up the swim
and then she found out she was only one mile from

Catalina island two months later she attempted to
swim again and again fog rolled in but this time

she imagined the shoreline of Catalina island
was just ahead and thinking that enabled her

to keep going keep going keep going and she made
it she swam the english channel both ways as well

as the straits of Gibraltar and the Bosphorus in
turkey she demonstrated that persistence is vital

to a person’s success there are times in life that
you want to quit but if you just keep pressing on

you can find that you actually can do what
you set out to do in christianity it isn’t

about pushing forth in your own strength but it
is about pressing on in the strength of Jesus,

Paul wrote to the Philippians and said brethren I
do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet

but one thing i do forgetting what lies
behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead

i press on toward the goal for the prize of the
upward call of God in Christ Jesus Philippians

3:13 and 14 when things get tough in your
Christian experience keep your eyes on Jesus and

press on in his strength his biddings are enabling
in his strength you can do it so wait on Jesus

and trust in him to get you through
